Jake Koester

CTO

Dr. Jake Koester has over seventeen years of experience in running, researching, and developing computational mechanics codes. He spent over ten years at Sandia National Laboratories, where he began as an analyst specializing in transient-dynamic structural analysis. Jake's dedication to improving the design-to-analysis workflow grew from his painstaking work meshing complex parts. He earned a Ph.D. in Structural Engineering from the University of California, San Diego, where he developed mesh-free methods for enabling accelerated simulation development. Jake furthered his research as the principal investigator for the Conforming Reproducing Kernel Method (CRK). Prior to Sandia, he contributed to thermomechanical finite element analysis of laser-heated structures at Ball Aerospace for the Air Force Research Laboratory. Following his time at Sandia, Jake continued his research at PTC and Coreform, focusing on immersed and isogeometric simulation techniques.

Kurtis Ford

CEO

Kurtis Ford combines deep technical expertise in computational mechanics with a strong entrepreneurial instinct developed early in a family business. He holds B.S. and M.S. degrees in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Utah and has spent his career solving some of the most demanding problems in multi-physics simulation and design.

Kurtis has directed analysis teams modeling the behavior of complex materials, including welds, additive manufacturing, ceramics, epoxy, and inorganic glass. He pioneered advanced modeling techniques for compact particle accelerators, streamlining automated digital design processes, and played a central role in the structural analysis of critical nuclear weapon components. He has also led crash analysis and developed a Digital Twin for a secure transportation group. His early experience as a mechanical draftsman gave him a firsthand understanding of the design-to-analysis workflow that Aperi CMC exists to transform.

Alongside his engineering career, Kurtis has produced and marketed online content and built a sizable, engaged audience from the ground up. He is bilingual in English and Spanish.
